EARTH APPEAL 2007: What Sets Ecological Internet Apart
EARTH APPEAL 2007 YEAR-END FUND-RAISER -- EI's unique brand of social entrepreneurism highlights the true extent of ecological crises and provides rigorous, sufficient responses; individual donations are lagging -- Please Donate Now!
The good news is that Ecological Internet (EI) is half way to our $75,000 fund-raising goal required to remain fully operational! The not so good news is that personal donations from network members are lagging. Individual donations have kept EI running for over a decade, are vital for maintaining our non-profit status, and successfully raising funds with many small donations shows support for our campaigns, tools and analysis.
Success thus far has largely been due to the largesse of two long-time "white knights" that made large gifts, which as a matching grant double all individual donations! Not expecting further large donations (we would love to be surprised), and still needing to raise some $37,000; your $35, $50, $100 or even $250 gifts are vital to EI's future. Please support ecologically-based, rigorous, hard-hitting and successful Earth protection now (after gift is received you will not be asked again this year).
Ecological Internet's three staff people are social entrepreneurs. We are a "pure play" Internet based ecological advocacy network, which means our efforts exist entirely in cyberspace. We are constantly innovating. In 1993 we started archiving and indexing environmental news useful for protest and policy-making. In 1995 we launched the Internet's first and longest continuously running blog of any type. In 1999 we started the first environmental search engine. In 2002 we pioneered Internet eco-protests that go beyond petitioning. This year we launched a unique environmental campaign social network. And loyal financial support of network members has further set us apart in the past.
Based upon decades of ecological research and observation, Ecological Internet presents worst case ecological scenarios underrepresented by other environmental groups, the media and policy-makers due to institutional inertia. In response to looming global ecological collapse we propose and work to implement adequate solutions that would save Gaia -- regardless of conventional wisdom regarding their political viability.
A number of factors set Ecological Internet apart. We are biocentric, concerned with sufficient policy measures, and providing information for action. We repeatedly identify and popularize new environmental threats; i.e we began writing and protesting biofuels several years ago, essentially pioneering this movement. No one else is filling the bright green niche of showing the way to global ecological sustainability like we are.
The success of the movement of which we are part has lead to an onslaught of new environmental and climate web sites that talk about the problems and sell green products, trying to profit from environmental decline. Now that climate and environment are "cool" it is more important than ever that EI's hard-hitting and truthful message and action not be drowned by profit-making greenwash. Do not let EI's important voice calling for an end to ancient forest logging and coal carbon emissions be drowned out by those suggesting shopping, not societal and personal change and society, will sustain being.
For EI the environment is not a business opportunity. Together (EI and you), our job is to be on the cutting edge of identifying global ecological threats, proposing solutions, and ensuring they are implemented. Individual donations are important to allowing these free thinking, political ecology activities to speak truth with passion to power.
It is that time of year again, where we will either make our budget or shut down. Please show you value the Earth, and EI as an important, truthful and effective defender, by donating what you can afford.

entrereneurism is a euphemism for capitalism, the great destroyer of Earth and abuser of labor.

Social entrepreneur is a well established term to describe small groups of people creatively coming up with answers to social (and in this case environmental) problems. And in any case, small business does much less damage than industrialism.
